It got intense at times Saturday – and really warm – as 23 firefighters from Woodruff, Minocqua, Hazelhurst, Lake Tomahawk, Manitowish Waters and Winchester participated in aircraft firefighting and crash rescue training at the Woodruff fire department. Woodruff assistant fire chief Victor Gee said the training cost $3,500 for the day, some of that paid for by a contribution from Spirit Air. Ritchie Propane provided the propane sent into pipes in the bottom of water pans ignited for the practical exercises. The day long course was conducted by ARFF Specialists of Hermantown, Minnesota. Wade Boyat, a 20 year veteran of the Air National Guard as well as a veteran firefighter with nearly 40 years experience in the field, owns the business.
